Recovering From Severe Addiction Is Possible - New Book
Date: Feb-13-2013A former drug addicted alcoholic and rehabilitation champion urges people to never give up hope that an addict can recover, no matter how far down the track to destruction they are.
Ian Young was a drug addicted alcoholic who considered himself to be one step ahead of the law at all times. But even the mighty fall, eventually! In his new book 'It's Not About Me!' (£14.99, Anoma Press) Ian reveals his astounding journey to recovery, whilst also providing a practical guide for anyone affected by the devastating effects of addictions.
"Given enough pain and distress, we reach a breaking point where we become willing to do just about anything to beat our debilitating habits. I finally realised the choices I was making were killing me," says Ian, who at his lowest point, was living in London, addicted to hard drugs, and was alienated from family and friends.
Following 13 years of chronic drug addiction, alcoholism, homelessness and unemployment, the Ian you see today is unrecognisable. He is the founder two large rehabilitation facilities in Europe and is the founder of Sober Services Ltd, another dynamic and influential business tackling addictions. Through his efforts, he has already positively touched the lives of thousands of addicted people and their families.
"I don't do any of that stuff anymore because I made a commitment to myself and I made it work. If I can get this message across in the book to those of you who are scared about making such a radical change in your life, then I'll be an even happier person," says Ian.
Far from being a self-help addict's guide to kicking the habit, 'It's Not About Me!' is designed to help those who have recovered or are just beginning their own recovery process to stay on track, to remain inspired and to continue to move in the right direction. It is also designed to help family members understand the process of recovery, and to have a better idea of the type of help out there available to families being ravaged by addictions and alcoholism.
"This process was developed as a direct response to my own experiences and this book is about not only the process itself but also the journey I took to get there. This book is my life story, my path, the good, the bad and the ugly. It serves as a reminder of the help that exists right outside your door. Ultimately, however, no matter what I or anyone else says, only an addict has the ultimate power to make the choice that could save their life," says Ian.
'It's Not About Me!' launched on 11th February 2013 and is published by Anoma Press.
